Sara Cardona

Sara Cardona was born in Mexico City where she currently lives and works. Using the analog process of cut-and-paste to create collages in the tradition of early twentieth century assemblage, the pieces are created in the spirit of editing film. These collages often become the foundation for large-scale sculptures in paper, metal, and quotidian objects. The works embrace Arte Povera techniques and seek to invite enigmatic pre-Columbian forms into the daily context of household objects and materials. Having grown up in a family involved in film and theater, the work is informed by an intersection of artifice, spectacle, photography and scenic construction.
